My ethos:
As an independent tutor, my priority has always been to build confidence within my students, so they have the self-belief and drive needed to meet any and all of their goals. I focus on fostering problem-solving skills, critical thinking and awareness of the 'why' behind what we are learning, so that my students learn how to study effectively and efficiently. Whether we're working on exam technique in Y11, fine-tuning understanding in Y13, or simply catching up on knowledge missed through the school year, I have tried and tested tips and tricks to boost understanding, grades and most importantly, confidence.
In my 4 years running 'TuitionwithSophie', my roster of students has grown from friends of friends to a fully-fledged cohort of approximately 20 students each week. I have students from all across the UK, and experience as an international tutor with students from Spain, Greece and Dubai. Now, I offer a smaller range of slots for lessons, so often need to place new students on a waiting list between February and June. With that in mind, I would always encourage parents of Year 11's or Year 13's to reach out before your child begins their exam year, to make sure that I have a space available.
Though my passion lies within STEM subjects, I have a passion for literature and have always encouraged my students to outgrow the notion that you have either a 'maths/science brain' or a 'creative brain'. There's no reason a student who dreams of becoming an artist can't thrive in physics too! With me, you can rest assured that your child's strengths will be embedded into lessons of excellent quality and value, where every week comes with new knowledge or new goals achieved.
I am particularly passionate about creating effective learning strategies for neurodiverse students and those with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, or processing disorders, such as ADHD. I firmly believe that education is for everyone and there's no reason why differences in any form should keep a student from reaching their full potential.
